Abstract

Dictionaries (qawāmīs and ma‘ājim in Arabic) serve as vital pedagogical media for foreign language acquisition, particularly for non-native Arabic learners in Indonesia. They constitute empirical evidence of linguistic standardization and provide essential benchmarks for lexical semantics, orthoepy, and synonymy. Consequently, the systematic design and modernization of specialized dictionaries remain critically indispensable in contemporary language education. This study details the development of a specialized bilingual (Indonesian–Arabic) dictionary tailored for the Departments of Pharmacy and Nutrition within the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Darussalam Gontor (UNIDA Gontor). Compiled over a seven-month period, the operational workflow progressed systematically from initial data elicitation and corpus building to lexicographical analysis, macrostructural design, and user evaluation, culminating in the prototype titled Mu‘jam Aṣ-Ṣiḥḥah. This paper delineates the architectural framework, structural typologies, and microstructural specifications of the dictionary, offering a foundational blueprint for researchers and specialized lexicographers despite its current status as a developing prototype. Methodologically, this research employs a qualitative descriptive design anchored in the theoretical principles of applied lexicography. A comprehensive exposition of the dictionary’s structural features, entry layouts, and pedagogical applications is systematically detailed in the subsequent sections of this paper.
