Abstract

Rhetoric is a science that studies the aesthetic and linguistic beauty of the Qur’an. According to Tayseer Muhammad al-Ziyadat, teaching Arabic rhetoric to non-native speakers presents unique challenges due to several key factors. First, rhetoric examines the intricate relationship between words, expressions, contexts, environments, and deeper meanings. It navigates both literal and metaphorical (implied) meanings, as well as the connection between expression, emotion, beauty, and imagination. Second, standard examples in traditional rhetoric textbooks are predominantly drawn from classical Arabic poetry. The language of these poems feels foreign to modern learners, and comprehending them requires a different cognitive approach than understanding ordinary sentences. To alleviate these pedagogical difficulties, solutions must be implemented, such as adopting innovative teaching methodologies and compiling simplified rhetoric textbooks. In this study, the researcher aims to explore effective learning methods and contemporary technologies tailored for teaching rhetoric. Among the approaches evaluated are the literary method, standard method, inductive method, blended learning method, and contrastive analysis. Additionally, several permissive and modern instructional tools are examined, including electronic mind maps, social media platforms, and image-based educational materials. Both these methods and technologies possess unique advantages and disadvantages. This research outlines these pros and cons systematically to serve as a practical guide for educators selecting instructional strategies. Because no single method or technology is flawless, teachers cannot rely exclusively on a single approach. Ultimately, this discussion aims to provide an additional reference framework for rhetoric teachers to enhance their instructional practices in the classroom.
